Error control in h- and hp-adaptive FEM for Signorini's problem

چکیده
This paper presents a posteriori finite element error estimates for Signorini’s problem. The discretization is based on a mixed variational formulation proposed by Haslinger et al. which is extended to higher-order finite elements. The a posteriori error control relies on estimating the discretization error of an auxiliary problem which is given as a variational equation. The estimation consists of error bounds for the discretization error of the auxiliary problem and some further terms which capture the geometrical error and the error in the complementary condition. The derived estimates are applied to hand hp-adaptive refinement and enrichment strategies. Numerical results confirm the applicability of the theoretical findings. In particular, optimal algebraic and almost exponential convergence rates are obtained.

A POSTERIORI ERROR ESTIMATES OF hp-FEM FOR OPTIMAL CONTROL PROBLEMS
Finite element approximation plays an important role in the numerical methods of optimal control problems. There have been extensive theoretical and numerical studies for the finite element approximation of various optimal control problems. However the literature is too huge to even give a very brief review here. In recent years, the adaptive finite element method has been extensively investiga...

In this paper we describe generic algorithms and data structures for the implementation of hp-adaptive discontinuous finite element methods in the Dune-Fem library. Special attention is given to the often tedious and error-prone task of transferring user data during adaptation. Simultaneously, we generalize the approach to the restriction and prolongation of data currently implemented in Dune-F...

The paper presents an algorithm for finding the optimal initial mesh for the self-adaptive hp Finite Element Method (hp-FEM) calculations. We propose the application of the hierarchical chromosome based genetic algorithm for optimal selection of the initial mesh. The selection of the optimal initial mesh will optimize the convergence rate of the numerical error of the solution over the sequence...

Keywords hp-FEM · contact problems This paper presents mixed variational formulation and its discretization with finite elements of higher-order for Signorini's problem with Tresca's friction. To guarantee the unique existence of the discrete saddle point of the mixed method, a discrete inf-sup condition is proven. Moreover, a solution scheme based on the dual formulation of the mixed method is...
